    Can someone explain to me why there is so much garbage still loaded after unloading addressables ? In video at 24.39 Started project with ~136 mb of ram usage at 24.52 code monkey has loaded addressables with enviro and ram usage jumped to ~616 mb at 24.55 code monkey has unloaded addressables and ram usage lowered to ~ 257 mb. There is still 120 mb of ram that was not unloaded. Can we do something about it ?

    your videos are alot better to understanding game development at a deeper level than 80% of unreal educational content out there. This is really what I always wanted in the unreal community which is always alot more plain rather than going into these topics like efficient algorithms etc. Didnt know about the flow algorithm.

    somehow when I click anywhere on the screen, one cell gets the value (56) but nothing more happens, I cant choose the cell, and clicking other cells, doesnt do anything. What could be the error? And how can I fix this?

    Hi, great video, thanks! I do not really understand how you can use the grid pathfinding on non-grid based 3d levels like these? Do you somehow subdivide it into a grid? How do you determine which grids are not walkable?

    Another way you can make nested namespaces is using ``` namespace MyNameSpace { namespace MyNestedNameSpace { } } // Use Like This using MyNameSpace.MyNestedNameSpace; ``` I will admit that I used to think that this was the only way to use nested namespaces, so I used it a lot, but it made my code really hard to read because I know had 12-20 spaces before I even got to the code! So I would only use this if you have objects that are contained in multiple namespaces in 1 file. This can be helpful if you like to have .Editor at the end of you namespaces for you editor classes, and if you have both the mono, and editor classes in the same file (I would not recommend doing that though.)

    ChatGPT/AI is neato to play with, can do some really cool stuff, and it makes so many mistakes with programming stuff that you have to know what you're doing or avoid, IMO. I'm 56 and even as fast as things move I doubt I'll get replaced before I retire - worst case I'll become an "AI prompter" since somebody with a clue has to tell the AI what to do.

    Ok so let say this. I have courses from CodeMonkey that i bought. And i learn a lot from it. And i thing is really not fair for someone to say you will never publish game. Let see i work my day job 10 hours every work day. My wife and i have 3 kids in shool. And i still manage publish games, create marketing post material, make material for several youtube chanels. And the interesting thing is i dont even understand C#. I tryied have many courses done but i dont get it. Like simple things ok but more complicated things... No. That is why you need to define what is your streng and what is not. I know i dont get c# so things i need to be done i do via fiverr. My games are not super duper crazy hot stuff. But i made them and iam proud of them. And every moth i build more and more complicated games. Till i will make my "dream game". So to all of you! YOU CAN DO ANYTHING !!!!! if you want it really happend!!! There is no limitations on in your head. Have a good day you all!

    if there's more than one person working on it, it's not solo. A small team or working with freelancer should qualify for "indie" because it's an independent development. As soon as you have a MegaGrant, or a publisher, it's not indie anymore.

    i agree with comments here. as a software engineer. you do NOT count the tools to consider.... if you use a hammer to build a house, you developed the house using the hammer. thats it. plain cut and dry. tools used does NOT effect the definition. it isn't saying you made the tools from scratch. game dev wise is the same concept. you MUST development ALL pieces to the project using any tools you want. you aren't judged by tools, but you ARE judged on labor percentage. concerned age is 100% solo dev for stardew valley. he made everything 100% using tools. if he one day were to purchase an asset pack, he would no longer be a solo dev. he didn't make 100% alone. a video game is EVERYTHING within the game. dev for manor lords; he wouldn't have a game either if he didnt hire 3d modelers and an orchestra for music. you would just have 2D circle and squares moving around since he didn't make 3D models. the game is composed of ALL elements. which is why nintendo games (some) are considered a work of art. like mario galaxy for example

    Solo dev != creating everything from scratch by your own hands Solo dev is about how many decisions was made by one person (from coding to writing music etc) There is no difference between buying asset from store or hiring someone to create an asset - it is still just an asset. For example you need 3d red car in your game. You can buy red car that 60% fits your desires in the asset store, or you can hire 3D artist to create red car that will fits your desires for 100%. If hired person doesnt affect your decision - it doesnt matter

    I'm really wondering how you're going to approach AI behavior in DOTS. Based on my own research, this is still a very experimental field with no common practices (FSM, behavior trees, utility AI) nor tools established yet. But looking forward to see what you come up with... Would be great do see you deal with also slightly more complex AI beyond zombies with "if in range->move closer, if in attack range->attack" basic stuff etc...

    if you're a solo dev and you're thinking about whether you are really a solo dev because you already contracted work out, you probably need to rethink what you pay attention to. solo devs shouldn't worry themselves with titles and ego-related nonsense. if you are unpublished and spending effort thinking about this stuff, it's probably one of the many reasons u are unpublished. these are probably the same people creating a company logo, company merch, buying nice office furniture, moving to an impressive city, and renting an expensive office before they make a single dollar. caring about image before making something people will pay money for is a losing mindset. if you are the only employee in your company, you are solo. inexperienced people think hiring contractors is easy and low effort, but who cares what they think. if you contract work out, make it seem like you are apart of a bigger team because your product will seem more professional and people are likely to spend more. i actually don't want my players to know im a 1 man company.

    30% sounds high and I'm sure most indies/solos would prefer it was lower, but most I've ever listened to were like Code Monkey in that they realize they are getting value out of the equation, not just robbed. I can't fault Tim for arguing for more profits for himself, but everything he argues, and everything EGS does,, does NOTHING positive for players - the opposite since the exclusives deny players choice and pushes them towards a grossly inferior platform in EGS. Tim tries to across as someone doing something noble - but it's mostly for himself and again, it does zero or worse for players. Love or hate Steam, it is objectively by far and away the best gaming platform. Nothing else has the features or comes close and it's very comfortable to players. The others are so horribly inferior, the Ubi whatever, the EA whatever, EGS is pure trash, Windows Store and/or any gaming experience whatever they do makes you wonder how MS is ever successful. You almost wish Valve would go full capitalist and try to buy/absorb/crush all competition - it would spare we, the gamers, from having to endure so many crappy platforms like EGS and worse.

    what about the combat? In games like Battle for middle earth you have one 'unit' that consists of like 30 or 40 individuals. Obviously when the health of the 'main' unit depleates that gets shown as one of the units in the group die. How is that combat implemented? I doubt that the logic is done for each of those units, but maybe I'm wrong

    Just a point of note - when you talk about two kinds of Fog of War - the blacked out exploratory part is called the Shroud. The regenerating greyed out areas are called Fog of War. The idea is basically if it's a previous unexplored area in a game with a setting (fantasy, medieval, no tech) that has no Satellites or RADARs you have Shroud. In games that have those, you would only use Fog of War, cause doesn't really make sense to be with Shroud....
